I’m very pleased to announce that I am trading as a digital heritage consultant, beginning in November 2020.
I’m Giles Carey, and I specialise in making digital data, websites and communication easy for your heritage project.
I’ve had a varied career as an archaeologist – across the commercial, university and local authority sectors. Alongside this I have extensive experience as a web designer and developer. Find out more about me…
I am a strong advocate of the power of digital communication, presentation and recording to help communicate and interpret the past. I can build websites – from the simple to the complex, create digital maps, talk to you about 3D and LiDAR data…and support the development of community heritage projects.
It is fair to say that the theme of 2020 has been change – and many small heritage societies have had to make substantial changes to what they can offer. Digital outputs – Zoom meetings, YouTube videos and websites – with interactive content and features – have never been more important in communicating to both local communities, and further afield. I’m happy to help further with developing what you are able to offer digitally – and communicate what you know about your local heritage in new ways, helping you to reach existing and new audiences.
I’ve been thinking long and hard about what the future of digital heritage will look like – it is definitely clear that effective digital communication will become a primary way in which people want to find out about, participate in, and investigate the past.
Please look around the website to see some further examples of projects I have been involved with – and services I can offer.
I’m always happy to chat about new projects – please do not hesitate to get in touch.
