Welcome to the website of Giles Carey; archaeologist first, digital specialist second.
I’m an archaeologist with a wide range of experience in the heritage sector. I’ve worked on community archaeology projects, in University research and for diversity is what I thrive on!
, managing heritage databases and mapping data. This background has given me a breadth of experience – from lithic scatters to power stations – and thisI’ve been lucky to have worked on a wide range of excavations and surveys across England and Scotland over the last 15 years. I’ve been privileged to work on the world famous Ness of Brodgar excavations for the last 8 years. I am also an experienced geophysicist, and particularly enjoy working with community groups to explore their past without lifting a trowel!
I hold a BA (Hons) Archaeology degree, 1st class, and MA (Hons) Archaeological Practice (with distinction) and have extensive research interests in archaeology, having been excavating every year since I was 14. I have published work on Early Neolithic houses in Orkney, survey on castle sites and Neolithic long barrows, amongst other topics.
Alongside this, I also have extensive experience as a web designer and developer.
